The Sunday Power Poker Tournament
THIS EVENT HAS NOW BEEN REPLACED
This takes the form of a wager challenge on the Jacks or Better 4-Play Power Poker. It is often better to play this one in person in order to get a feel for how the game is playing. A good coin size to choose is £1, giving a total bet of £20 per round. Scoring is generally higher in this tournament, and so are the prizes. Power Poker has a house edge nearly as small as Blackjack, but a much higher variance. It can lead to big wins while competing, a Royal Flush will pay £4000 on a £1 coin (Max coins play). 4 of a kind will be dealt in on occasion, giving a £500 total win. Some players may well consider halting after a good run, and this could be wise, as Microgaming software can often turn nasty. It can be difficult to tell the difference between a pause in a good run, and a long term turn for the worse.
The autoplay should play perfect video poker, but I have found it makes a few odd moves. It will play for the long term return, rather than accept a win of low value, which may not be the sort of strategy best suited for keeping your bankroll alive in a tournament.
One common question for new players in wager challenges is "How big a player do I need to be?". This will vary between casinos, and between different runs of the tournament. Last week's scores are always available, and one point is equivalent to one credit wagered. For example, to score 10000 points you must wager a total of £10000 worth of bets. You do not have to lose that amount, your score is based on throughput. I have created a reference of past scores, which can be linked to below.
